Book of Jon notes

The book of Jon seems to blend certain principles of poetry with the format of a memoir. A poem, being the generator of meaning and not meaning itself, is usually closer to raw experience with myriad sensory images and disconnected frames of reference. When applied to a memoir, the results are quite striking. Instead of artificially organizing her scattered memories into a unified narrative, Eleni creates a series of independant poems/anecdotes that give a colorful and, despite their being scattered and discontinuous, full acount of her fathers life. The Book of Jon doesnt make me wonder what is made up and what is factual, instead, the subjective nature of experience and the crucial role of imagination in memory is made clear by the form of the book, which seems to actually mirror the form of memory, fluctuating and unstable, subjective and non-chronological.
